In May 2023 a unique auction will be held, featuring a rare and highly valuable piece of British history.
This piece is a 17th century manuscript issued by King Charles II in 1660 and was instrumental in the restoration of the British Monarchy.
The manuscript will be auctioned by Sotheby’s on the eve of the Coronation of King Charles III, the current monarch. Five copies of the official declaration were developed, however only one has been preserved and placed in a parliamentary archive.
The copy available for auction has an estimated value of between €455,470 and €683,230 (£400,000 and £600,000). Its value aligns to its great importance, having been thanks to this declaration, re-established the monarchy that remains active to this day.
