In a live online auction held on July 29 by Sotheby’s New York, the first artwork of a Futbol Club Barcelona non-fungible token (NFT) was sold. With the possibility of using various cryptocurrencies such as BTC, ETH, USDC or DOT to purchase the virtual art piece, this was an auction that raised $630,000.
The item consists of a piece of audiovisual digital art with a recreation of the goal scored by Johan Cruyff in the game on September 22, 1973, against Atlético de Madrid. In addition, the sale also integrated additional NFTs with the static image of the main version recreating the moment of the famous goal.
The digital artwork was called “In a Way, Immortal” and its auction took place between July 21 and 29, attracting about 30 potential investors. With the acquisition of the item, the buyer is thus the Digital Ambassador of Barça and will be able to enjoy numerous perks related to the club (Meet & Greet or official delivery of the ball in a friendly game).
